Gospel Training

Ben shared this with me earlier this week, and I cannot stop thinking about it. He referred to that verse in Proverbs "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." He then said that usually when we read that verse, the first thing we think of is discipline. "If only I spank or discipline my child enough, then we he's old, he won't depart from the way." But the way we should think about that verse is in gospel terms. The gospel is beautiful, and God has dumped blessings on our heads, not least of which is salvation. So, in our dealings with our children, we should dump blessings on their heads (yes, discipline is one of those blessings, but certainly not the only one), and when they are old, they will not depart from all they have been taught. So...am I thinking of how I can dump blessings on my kids heads? Doing so creates a gospel culture in the home that is irresistible, and our kids will have a hard time departing from thatwhen they are older.
