This Week in Pictures

Today the girls went to a birthday tea party. They decorated these hats made from a cardboard plate and bowl. Seeing a group of girls all decced out in these hats was quite a site!

REAL Bob the Builder work: Elijah and Daddy made this using REAL nails and srews and REAL hammers and screwdrivers. After they were done, Elijah said he wanted to do it "gin, and gin, and gin!"

Did You See the Lunar Eclipse?

Last night we bundled up the kids and went to the park to check out the eclipse. Very amazing how God's world works! (In case your wondering...no Ben did not take this pic. He's a good photographer, but not that good :-)

Love Poem

This poem is for all you coffee lovers, such as myself, who view coffee as more than just a neccessity to chug down, but as an art to be enjoyed! And FYI, the word 'leme' means brightness.

The Art of Coffee-Drinking

As with art 'tis prepared, one should drink it with art.
The mere commonplace drinks one absorbs with free heart;
But this-once with care from the bright flame removed,
And the leme set aside that its value has proved-
Take it first in deep draughts, meditative and slow,
Quit it now, now resume, thus imbibe with gusto;
While charming the palate it burns yet enchants,
In the hour of its triumph the virtue it grants
Penetrates every tissue; its powers condense,
Ciruculate cheering warmths, bring new life to each sense.
From the cauldron profound spiced aromas unseen
Mount to tease and delight your olfactories keen,
The while you inhale with felicity fraught,
The enchanting perfume that a zephyr has brought.

Mom's New Blog

My Mom has joined the blogosphere and will be posting her many adventures in Asia in her travel diary http://lmyer-scenicroute.blogspot.com/

Enjoy!

"Passionate Housewives Desperate for God"

This book has really rocked my boat this week...for the good! It was an answer to many of my prayers. At times I struggle with a lot of lies that are out there regarding women's roles in the home...and this book combats those lies with the word of God. It has renewed my vision and given me good perspective. I'm so grateful to the Lord! The two authors know the culture we live in very well, and this is not one of those typical books that just coddle women. I definately encourage you moms to read it. You can order it from http://www.visionforum.com/ .

Noble Deeds

Our ladies Bible study has been such a blessing to me these last few days. A dear, dear older woman (Mrs. Ansett) takes her Biblical role seriously to teach us younger ladies to love our husbands and love our kids and to be keepers at home. She has been doing a 5-part series on contentment, particularly in the areas that women struggle with. Many things have been helpful, but this particular thing has been especially helpful, and that is to study what the Lord views as a noble woman. Proverbs 31 lays that out for us quite clearly. It is surprising how much the noble woman in Prov 31 deals with clothes and food! She does a lot of things with her hands...and does it all "with delight". Last week, Mrs Ansett had us ladies do some homework. At the end of everyday we were to write down everything we did for the day...changing diapers, laundry, nursing, cooking, cleaning, homeschooling, errands, whatever...and then view our list in the light of Prov. 31 and Titus 2. All these deeds are what the Lord views as noble! Christ came not to be served, but to serve. And we His servants are not greater than our Master. Changing diapers is a noble deed! I found this to be so encouraging, and it gave a fresh perspective on my work here in the home.

Grammy and Julia. Julia's bib says "More peas please!"
For the love of books. My Mom sent us a collection of children's classics that used to be my Aunt Carol's. My kids love looking at the pictures of these books, and I have been reading "The Wizard of Oz" to them and THEY LOVE IT and never want me to stop reading!

An early surprise Valentine's gift from Ben... Irises and...
chocolate covered strawberries! The box for these strawberries said, "Close the door behind you and lock it. Go hide behind the couch and savor!" I practically had to do that in order to keep little fingers out of this box of gems!
